And, in general, why is there nowhere to mark all forums as read ?
Hi Andy
I have updated the Options widget on the forum page to now include a Mark all as read button. I don't think a centralised mark all as read option exists in our version of the platform but I am looking into this, and will get you an update as soon as possible.
In the meantime, I can add this button to all of all forums.
Thanks
Oli
Thanks.
Is there any chance of getting a global 'Mark All Forums as Read' option?
It's a pain having to visit each forum individually to mark its threads as read.
Also, the option for 'Mark as Read' is inconsistent; eg,
Also, on the subject of (in)consistency, why do some forums have a vote up/down on threads:
But others just have 'I have this question too':
and, similarly some just have 'Like' for the OP, but others have vote-up/down
As some of these forums were setup before my time, it might be just inconsistency when individual forums were being setup. Right now I am going through all the forums to ensure the mark all as read button is there, I'll also look into the upvoting and 'I have this question' functions as well.
For the mark all forums as read request, I'm waiting to hear back from our vendor on if this is possible or not. I'll let you know when they get back to me.
In case they ask for some justification for the feature request, what is the reason you want to mark all threads as read?
Update 1: I had a look at the upvoting of threads vs 'I have a question'. There is a setting to allow voting on the quality of threads, and some forums have this enabled and others do not. Since disabling this feature means you can still upvote replies to threads, and users can still click 'I have this question too', I am going to turn this off in all the forums. Thanks for flagging this Andy, I appreciate it.

I think it's an obvious requirement but, specifically:
When you look at the forums listing, it shows all forums, and brings threads with 'new' posts to the top.
Because it's all forums, there are always bound to be some of no interest to a particular user - so they don't want to have to go into each irrelevant forum just to mark threads as read.
Another use case is where one has been away for a while (eg, vacation; business trip) and you just want a clean start on your return.

Is this separate from voting on the OP in a thread?
That is the setting I just switched off. So right now, instead of upvoting and having 'I have this question to', its just the latter option that is available on the OP. There's no point in upvoting OPs when you have the like button there to use.
Upvoting is now only for replies to threads.
Thanks for the reasoning, I will share this with Telligent as a feature request in the event of the Mark all forums feature not being available.

This does now seem to be the case - thanks.
But there is still an inconcsistency:
sometimes it comes before the 'Tell us what you think'; eg,
But mostly it comes after; eg,
Which is a bit annoying on 2 counts:
In view of the fact that there is no global 'Mark All Read' - so we do (for now, at least) have to visit each forum individually and click 'Mark All Read' - please could the 'Mark All Read' consistently come first?
Thanks for flagging this Andy, I've updated all the forums to have the Options widget sit above the satisfaction survey.
Great - thanks.
