Is ARM DS-5 license transferable ?
As I understand, DS-5 product is outdated now, and , ARM rolled out some updated development studio or IDE.
Perhaps, someone will want to sell their "old" DS-5. And I might be interested - looking for one with full bare-metal support for all Cortex-M targets, and _bare_metal support for Cortex-As. (at least A5, A7, A9..).
I might be dreaming, but I thought, perhaps it is possible to buy "second hand" DS-5, for much much cheaper ..
Hi there,
Unfortunately no, these licenses are not transferable.
I recommend contacting Arm to get a quotation for what you need:https://developer.arm.com/buy-arm-productsRegards
Hi Ronan,
Unfortunately, for a personal or individual use that is a very expensive product to buy .... And that is just the software, which also needs an expensive debug probe.
If it helps, a free 30-day evaluation version is availablehttps://developer.arm.com/tools-and-software/embedded/arm-development-studio/evaluate
Hey Ronan,
No it won't :) I have used DS-5 Community enough that I wouldn't need to evaluate.
Also , I would like to skip ARM CC if possible, and, anything else that I would cut down costs on. But, baremetal debug is a must, and hopefully not limited to DSTREAM debug probe.
Speaking of which , is DSTREAM locked to DS-5? Can I use that hardware debug probe without DS-5? Does it have say GDB protocol support?
Development Studio BRONZE edition includes full debug support for all these cores, as well as compiler support for Cortex-M, but not the Cortex-A coresThe ulink family of debug adapters are also supported.
Thank you, and I see.
There should be a cheaper DS-5 for M/R and A cores .. And to allow heterogenous multi-core bare metal debug.
I'm looking at the comparison:

Ok, I could live without ARM CC for A cores, and happy to use GCC. Does it integrate with this studio?
Does the Bronze version support full bare metal debug, including on multi-cores / heterogenous cores? (M and A cores simultaneously).
Is the ARM software "debugger" part of the Bronze edition? Is it limited in anyway?
Do I get full OS "awareness" with this Bronze version? I.e, say, for Linux kernel awareness (see kernel threads, objects etc), and different RTOS awareness..? (primarily would want FreeRTOS). Is it possible to script -in some extra awareness?
Yes, you can integrate gcc into the tools, and the debugger will support images built with gcc.Yes, there is no limitation in functionality, other than the CPUs that are supported. This includes OS support for a number of RTOSes, including FreeRTOS.https://developer.arm.com/docs/101470/1800/debugging-embedded-systems/about-os-awareness/about-debugging-freertos
Sorry, and Linux kernel?
Yes, kernel debug also supported:https://developer.arm.com/docs/101470/1910/debugging-embedded-systems/about-os-awareness/about-debugging-a-linux-kernel
Thanks Ronan,
I'm thus starting to think that, if you do get all of that with the Bronze, it might be worth the $.
Can I ask you, after 1 year license period, can you still use the studio, without support? It won't lock you out..?
I 1 year license will cease to run after that year. You can purchase a permanent license, which comes with 1 year only of support. If you do not renew that, the tool will still run, but you will not have access to any updates released after that year.
