Can anyone direct me towards a JTAG still manufactured and sold for use with the M8051EW. It seems as though most manufacturers have ceased production for a number of reasons. Since this 8051 variant supports JTAG I was hoping to be able to use this feature. The most promising is/was the MIPS FS2/System Navigator but cannot find a seller. I have a ULINK2, but the [Project][Options][Debug] drop-down does not allow/support selection. The MON51 and ISD51 use system resources, so I would prefer to not use them. Thanks.
I just put "M8051EW" into google, and one of the first hits was:
"The M8051EW and M8051W microcontroller cores formerly sold by Mentor Graphics are now available from and supported by Silvaco." www.silvaco.com/.../index.html
(my emphasis)
So they would seem to be the people to ask ...
Andrew,
Thanks for the response, but already have explored this route. BTW: On Silvaco's website is the following post:
DEBUG SUPPORT
The M8051EW features the OCI debug unit with an IEEE 1149.1 (JTAG) interface to the external debug hardware. The OCI debug unit is intended to be used with the MIPS Technologies System Navigator for Mentor Graphics M8051EW Cores to provide a wide range of debugging features including breakpoints, reconstruction of execution history, and capture of Data Memory, Program Memory, and SFR accesses.
I already have a query into MIPs from this link: www.embeddeddeveloper.com/.../SNAV-CAST8051.htm
Again, there does not seem to be much, if any, support for the EW JTAG capability for the 8051 variant. I'll keep looking and if I find a solution will post result for others too...
Thanks.
Segger makes many variants of this, I can't help you with actual model
erik,
Thanks but.....according to IAR/Signum website: http://signum.com/Signum.htm
"The JTAGjet, ADM51 and USP lines of probes and emulators have been discontinued. The related legacy software products are not maintained anymore and come without any technical support."
Apparently not a big seller.. a problem using odd/proprietary hardware/ip
You'll either need to dig equipment out of the secondary market, find some consulting group with specific experience, equipment and expertise, or use other methods.
If you can write functional code, ie not require single step to understand what you've written, you can use a serial port to understand flow and function, and provide a debug monitor type interface.
All,
.........sigh................
Thanks. Will keep looking. Anybody comes across one please let me know.
