Hi guys,
Is there any documentation on the power consumption of the Mali 400 MP2 during different ops. How does this compare with the Mali 470 ?
Just curious.
Regards,
Rajesh.
Hi, There isn't any public power data available from Arm because (1) our partners will use different silicon implementations (process nodes, cell libraries, choice of top frequency, etc) and (2) on most platforms it can change dynamically due to frequency and voltage scaling. The combined effect of these two together can be large - even on a single process node I would expect to be able to create a 5x difference in energy consumption for an otherwise identical piece of content across implementations just by using different physical implementation choices and voltage levels.
As a horrible rule of thumb things which touch memory, such as texturing and vertex attribute access, are going to be more expensive in terms of energy consumption than simple arithmetic operations in a shader program.
Mali-470 is substantially more efficient at handling texture cache misses than the earlier Mali-400 and -450 products, so we expect something like 40% energy efficiency improvements for texture streaming content such as user-interface rendering.
HTH, Pete
Thanks Peter .. that helps a lot.
