Vulkan apps crashig on MaliT880 (Galaxy S7)

Thanks Wasim for quick help !!

My driver is : OpenGL ES 3.1 v1.r9p0-12dev0.c37094c9ad948aa7a7b056e38dcda762

Note that I am running with latest Galaxy S7 OTA.

Can you pls help me understand what may be the issue and how to sync to latest Vulkan driver ?

Really appreciate your help here.

Hi samya,

Our demo you mentioned hasn't been released so you can't download it I am afraid.

Can I ask you to open another thread for the problems you are seeing. It will be easy to handle your query separately instead of here in the blog post.

Please provide the driver version you have on your Samsung device. You can find this by opening Chrome browser on your device and navigating to "chrome://gpu". I will only need the GL_VERSION string. If it is "OpenGL ES 3.1 v1.r9p0-12dev0.c2bae768d87bf40047e1f310c8de7f16" then you have a very old version of the Vulkan driver.

I can also confirm these samples http://vulkan.gpuinfo.org/examples.php work on my Android device.

I bought Samsung Galaxy S7 with Mali T880 GPU.

When I tried few vendor neutral apps e.g. http://vulkan.gpuinfo.org/examples.php

All apps are crashing on launch.

My galaxy S7 is running with latest Samsung OTA.

Why is this happening ?

Where can I download+install demo which you demonstrated :

  • Hi samya,

The only way to get update for your device is when Samsung provide an OTA. I have seen some latest S7 devices have latest driver (r12) but there are no publicly available update for those S7s which have r9.

You can keep an eye on sammobile.com and see if there is firmware upgrade available for S7.

There is not much we can do I am afraid.

    Kind Regards,

    Wasim
