Difference between Mali 400 and 450 GPUs in Android smart boxes

Hello,

Is there noticeable difference between the Mali 400 and Mali 450 mobile GPUs for running videogame emulators (and for Android games as well) in an Android 4.4.2 smart tv box (a device that gives smart capabilities to older TVs, either CRT or flat panel)? What about the video playback performance?

Thank you!

PS: Sorry if I asked this in the wrong forum, please advise where should I post it if possible! Thanks!

  • Hi piovezan,

Mali-400 and Mali-450 are very similar. Main differences:

    • Mali-450 has twice the vertex processing performance.
    • Mali-400 can scale up to 4 pixel processing cores, Mali-450 can scale up to 8.
    • Mali-450 includes a different software interface which reduces CPU load.

Note that there are multiple possible configurations of the GPU produce we license to silicon partners (different core counts, top frequencies, etc), so a Mali-400 from one chipset may perform very differently to a Mali-400 in another. Please check with your chipset vendor or datasheet for Mali configuration and performance information.

    > What about the video playback performance?

The Mali-400 or Mali-450 is just an OpenGL ES accelerator for real-time graphics, it's not a video decoder - that would be a different piece of hardware in the chip (if present).
