DS-5 with the armasm toolchain capabilities?

I'm investigating resources for a college class I teach that has a significant assembly language programming component.  The textbook has used MIPS assembly as the teaching language.  A new version of the text is out that uses ARM and a subset of the ARMv8 architecture (they call it LEGv8).  I am in need of a simulation environment that allows students to write and debug ARMv8 assembly language programs without the need of having the ARM hardware (and it should be free). Will DS-5 with the armasm toolchain meet this need? Are there other options available?
