Hello,
I have the MDK-Lite v5.33 and whenever I try to open a GPDSC file I get the message:
'Cannot read project file...'.
This is a valid xml file generated by Atmel START.
---
I wonder if the GPDSC is supported by MDK-Lite. I cannot find relevant info on the Keil web site.
Thanks,
Bogdan
When problems are due to a licence restriction, the message usually states that.
Can you open the file in any other text editor?

How are you sure that it's valid? Maybe START made a mistake .... ?
Yes, I can see the content. Looks like the file structure is ok (XML formatted document)
From the description provided by Microchip it looks like the *.gpdsc extention should be available but it does not (i.e. not seen when opening the file from the MDK):
onlinedocs.microchip.com/.../index.html

Are you sure you have the correct version of MDK ?
EDIT
What happens if you try to open the file by double-clicking in the Windows File Explorer - rather than via File/Open within uVision?
EDIT 2
Or drag from the Windows File Explorer, and drop into uVision?
1. Please download the XIAO1.zip from:
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1P9Qfld24UrwAuvfoYEoJd_JIWXtQoLRp
2. Please extract the content to the folder and try to open the AtmelStart.gpdsc from the uVision File->Open menu OR whatever magic way you have to do this.
3. Please let me know if you succeeded and what MDK version and license you have.
Have you tried the 2 suggestions:
drag from the Windows File Explorer, and drop into uVision?
I was thinking you were joking;) But to stop the 'File Explorer' investigation the answer is: YES, tried! No Success!
-----I am looking for someone who ownss Keil MDK and is willing to open GPDSC file just to test.On the other hand I installed Atmel Studio so the Keil issues is not so important now. Happy New Year.
On Win-10
Thanks a lot.Just for you Andy. I remember you from the STM32 forum (I am a STM32 fun for almost 10 year) and you were very helpful! I wanted to play with something new - some SAMD21 modules are really nice e.g. Seeduino XIAO.Since tested some other development options (PlatformIO, Atmel Studio) the Keil IDE is not so important now although I like it.
So that's uVision 5.32.0.0.
With that, the Windows Explorer does not recognise the .dpdsc file type:
To be continued ...
... continued:
On Win-7, with uVision v5.14.0.0, the Windows Explorer does recognise the .dpdsc file type:
and double-clicking does start uVision; and gives this:
So it seems this version of uVision can open the .dpdsc files.
So it seems that this feature has been broken or removed since uVision v5.14.0.0.
I very much doubt that the Windows version has anything to do with it at all.
You might want to raise a ticket with Microchip that their documentation needs to state specific Keil version compatibility.
Thanks for the investigation.I'll switch to the other non-Keil tool for SAMD. I like Keil for easy assess to the IROM/IRAMsettings but can do the same with *.ld files.
I submitted a ticket to Keil support and got the answer quickly:"The file generated with 3rd party tools is not supported anymore in MDKv5.33 If you want then you can try the older versions"
Thanks for feedback - you need to mark that as the solution (unmark my previous guess).
Also, please report this to Microchip - as their documentation is now clearly wrong!

except that you can't download older versions of the Evaluation version!
Frankly, you first suggested to use older version. Keil support only confirmed silent feature removal....
