Arm has released the latest update to Arm Development Studio, with the 2022.2 Gold, Silver, and Bronze editions. The 2022.c Platinum Edition will follow soon after for users with access to that edition.

Key technology features added to this release are:

  • Support for latest Arm IP
  • Support for PSA-ADAC Authenticated Debug
  • Initial support for DWARF5 debug tables
  • Miscellaneous usability improvements and bug-fixes

Individual components of Development Studio have been updated as follows:

  • Arm Compiler for Embedded updated to 6.19
  • Fixed Virtual Platforms (FVPs) are now based on Arm Fast Models 11.19
  • Arm Streamline has been updated to version 8.3.0
  • Arm Graphics Analyzer has been updated to version 5.12.0.

See the Release notes for full details.

Support for latest Arm IP

The Gold Edition of Arm Development Studio 2022.2 is the first public release (previously only available with the Platinum Edition) with full support the following Arm processors:

  • Cortex-A715
  • Cortex-X3

It is also the first public release to support these Arm architectures and architecture extensions:

  • Armv8.7-A and Armv9.2-A
  • Realm Management Extension (RME)

Support is provided by the Arm Compiler for Embedded, the Arm Debugger, and the suite of FVPs within Development Studio. Various example projects are also given to help users understand functionality.

Exploring the supplied RME example:

PSA-ADAC Authenticated Debug Access Control

Arm IP is designed with security at the forefront. Authenticated Debug Access Control (ADAC) aims at making sure that debug capabilities do not become vulnerabilities. The Authenticated Debug Access Control Specification has been developed with Arm partners to provide an industry standard solution to this problem.

Software stacks implementing Trusted Firmware-M platforms can integrate the psa-adac library to their codebase, an important milestone to achieve PSA Certification.

The Arm Debugger implements the Secure Debug Manager (SDM) component of the ADAC specification, controlling access to (parts of) the system under debug. System IP, such as CoreSight SDC-600 are necessary to provide a secure debug channel. This is provided within platforms such as (the PSA Certified) Corstone-1000.

To learn more about PSA-ADAC, I recommend my colleague's session at Arm DevSummit 2022, which explained the functionality and the implementation.

DWARF5 debug table support

Initial support for the DWARF5 Debugging Format Standard is implemented in the Arm Debugger. This is the latest debug table format, and improves the debug visibility of your code.

DWARF5 debug tables can be generated by Arm Compiler for Embedded as well as GCC Embedded Toolchain.
