In a keynote speech at the 2021 OCP Global Summit, Renee James, CEO of Ampere Computing, is announcing their “Mt. Jade” server is being donated to the Open Compute Project (OCP). This marks the first time an Arm-based server has been contributed to OCP.
Chris Bergey, SVP and GM of Arm’s Infrastructure Line of Business and Jeff Wittich, Chief Product Officer at Ampere Computing recently sat down to discuss the significance of this announcement. And also discussed the collaboration between the two companies on driving industry standards for Arm-based servers.
The OCP Global Summit is hybrid this year, but Arm is present on the San Jose Convention Center Expo floor (Booth #11). This year Arm is demonstrating hardware from our Arm SystemReady certification program.
If you aren’t familiar with Arm SystemReady, this is a set of specifications and recipes offered to Arm’s partners to help ensure compatibility with common hardware and firmware standards. Arm SystemReady supports a range of target devices from high-performance cloud servers down to power and space constrained IoT endpoints. For each system type the end goal is the same – make sure target software “Just Works” and help our partners get products to market sooner and with high quality.
Arm is also delivering or participating in several sessions at the show. In support of the OCP Security group, Sridhar Valluru is presenting “Confidential Compute Solutions in Arm Ecosystem”. This session will discuss the security advancements added to the Armv8 and ArmV9 architectures. This includes Arm’s support for Arm Confidential Compute Architecture “realms” for protecting data in use.
In support of the Open Domain-Specific Architecture sub-group, Javier DeLaCruz is presenting. Javier is joined by representatives from Google and Microchip Technologies in this session. Use of chiplet technology is expected to increase in support of large core-count and heterogeneous SoC designs. This session focuses on the economic trade-offs offered by chiplet implementations.
In support of the OCP Open System Firmware Project, Arm is presenting two sessions. First, Arm Fellow, Dong Wei, is presenting “Introduction to Open System Firmware (OSF) at OCP”. Co-presenters include Google and Intel. This talk provides a current state of affairs for what the OSF Project Community has been doing in the OSF space.
Finally, Samer El-Haj-Mahmoud (along with Ampere) is presenting “Arm & Ampere Support for Standards-based Open Source Firmware”. This session presents the various standards and implementation levels supported by Arm SystemReady. It will also review Arm and Ampere’s efforts for supporting OSF implementations including TianoCore/EDK2, LinuxBoot, and OpenBMC.
