Arm at Fortinet Accelerate : The need for powerful energy-efficient compute

1 minute read time.

The demand for high-performance, power-efficient compute continues to drive the need for new innovative solutions.  Arm is at the heart of this journey, providing building blocks that our partners license to create purpose-built solutions. Leveraging efficient Arm cores and tailoring the configuration for specific applications lowers power consumption, delivers higher performance or in most cases, a combination of both.

Fortinet is achieving remarkable performance for networking and security use cases with their purpose-built system-on-a-chip (SoC) that leverage Arm cores. The latest offering, the Fortinet FortiSP5 is expected to ship in FortiGate appliances in the second half of 2023.

With the published performance #s from Fortinet, the FortiSP5 is promising significant uplift in performance:

  • Firewall: 40Gbps
  • IPSec VPN: 37 Gbps
  • Threat protection: 2.8 Gbps
  • SSL inspection: 2.8 Gbps

In the cloud, the Arm based instances lead with highest efficiency, translating to lower cost for consumers.   FortiGate Next-Generation Firewall runs on the latest AWS Graviton3 processors, a custom Arm-based CPU developed by AWS. Performance metrics on Graviton2 are published in the Fortigate VM datasheet which highlight the cost advantages. The upcoming Graviton3 performance numbers with FortiGate Next-Generation Firewall are promising to be even more compelling.

Arm is excited to be a gold sponsor of Fortinet Accelerate 2023 from April 3rd to 6th in Orlando, Florida. Come find Biren Mehta and Marc Meunier at the Expo Hall, Booth 21  where we will share details and answer questions on how Arm is transforming the world with our licensable efficient compute technology.   Join us at our Theatre Talk at 3pm on Tuesday, April 4th where we will present an overview of the transformation taking place from Edge to cloud to data center architecture.
