Why does AHB or APB support only 16 slave devices?

I would like to know why only 16 slave device select lines are present in the AHB and APB bus architectures.

    Hi Simon,

    I was looking at a particular implementation of these buses. Those implementations provided 16 slave select lines, and I got biased by that. Hence, my question.

    After your response, I went through the AMBA specifications and realized that there is no such restriction.
