Why does AHB or APB support only 16 slave devices?

I would like to know why only 16 slave device select lines are present in the AHB and APB bus architectures.

  • The only restriction for either the AHB or APB specification that I am aware of, is that each device must occupy a whole multiple of 1kB, this would imply that, in a 32-bit address space, of the order of 4 million slave devices could [theoretically] be supported.

What are you basing your assertion that the maximum number is 16 on?

    Best regards

    Simon.
