Can anyone explain me what is FCAN,BCAN, MSCAN,LSCAN,FSCAN? How are they different from one another, is it only the speed of the can that decides or is there any other parameter that decides the category of these buses. Thanks
Hello,
Could you give a link to where these funny names are listed? - I.e. where have you seen such abbreviations in relation to CAN-bus...

which is the US vehicle CAN
The only hit I get on Google for that set of terms is this cross-post at NXP: forums.nxp.com/viewtopic.php
We are using CANoe simulation tool from vector Gmbh. we connect our hardware to this and run a configuration file which configures the CAN bus as FCAN, or BCAN bus. LSCAN is low speed CAN, MS is medium speed CAN, and HS CAN is high speed CAN. These are not funny. nor they are specific to any company or software. I know the full form of all but wanted to know what excatly they are and how are they different from each other.
So you should ask them what they mean by those terms!
did not get reply for my querry, nor got any information in their website. So posting this question. Andy I always admire you for the ease with which you answer the querries and solve the problem. i am a big fan of yours. I closely follow your answers in other websites also. Help me in this issue.
The Vector Informatik GmbH is a rather known company, so they should be able to provide you as their customer with all information you need on J1939 and around it, try to push them. Worth to check content of SAE J1939 document series (if you have access, if not - the standards come at price of about $60 each), you might be able to dig out info you need. The link: www.sae.org/.../standards.
Mathwork has Vector's tool for Matlab posted on the web: www.mathworks.com/.../product_main.html the package might some info in it...
Thanks Nikolay; pushing hard the Vector people to give me correct explaination as I am their customer. it cleared some of the doubts have have lot more of querries to be answered
There abbreviations are not different buses. There tools apparently can not support the entire speed range of the CAN bus at once. Find your baud rate, read the CANoe manual and select the proper options.
Hi neil; Sorry for late reply from my side. Ya thats true, all 3 CAN bus use different speed and use different types of interface cables and all 3 does not have CAN HI and CAN LOW and Groung. Some have CAN HI and +12V and Ground. but if I look at baud rate Medium and low speed operate at interchangable speeds. then why this discrimination. But even though the speed are interchangable, I have to use correct cable for my application or else it will not work.
These are all manual Questions. The baud rate and other settings must be correct. T he device may adjust the slew rate. I do not have one. I used a different brand.
