scatter file

hi friends,

i have to write a scatter file for lpc3250. how to start? what is scatter file? why for it is?

is there any reference for scatter file?

    I am also confused. In lpc22xx,24xx i never linked this scatter files.I have downloaded some example codes from net for lpc3250. There settings are linked (options for target -> linker -> scatter file -> blinky.sct) with a sct file. so, is it necessary to link a scatter file? or any other way to proceed?
