help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i cant get the program to work. what is wrong?

add-number ( integer a; integer b )
(
  add-number = integer a + integer b
)

  • Not to mention the phase "C Standard" and "have you read".

    <grin>

  • Presumably, forum members would be able to apply some sort of rating to a post, a bit like the "customer reviews" at places like Amazon - so it would be a subjective measure.

    Yes, that's exactly what concerns me.

    That's the one advantage of a "quantity" score - it is entirely objective!

    I'm beginning to think that a random number generator might come up with a more meaningful score than either approach.

  • As you can surely see by the code, I am an experienced and skilled code writer.

    There's no one like M. Cavity.

  • Actually, I was thinking of allowing posters to "rate" posters (indirectly through the messages they post) as well as threads.

    That way, posters with higher "ratings" would have more value/importance/relevance assigned to their "ratings" of other threads.

    That way, if many posters agree that a particular poster is not very worthwhile, his ratings of a particular thread would not account for much.

    I haven't really worked this out in detail. But, I'm sure you guy will come up with many of the good ideas for me! :-)

    I suspect you'll just end up with a lot of bandwidth wasted by people whining about the system in addition to the existing nonsense posts.

    Most contributors can easily spot a post from a complete idiot and choose to ignore it.

    What really needs to be stopped is the misinformation posted by 'idiots with experience'. These posts appear authoratitive and as such may mislead the inexperienced visitor who is genuinely looking for help or advice.

    If you implement some form of registration system you run the risk of losing occasional contributors who actually post useful information but may not bother if posting is made difficult, then be left with those who post prolifically as some sort of ego massage programme.

    The only solution I can see is to employ a moderator with a good knowledge of Keil product to delete the nonsense and weed out the garbage.

    Hmmm ... I wonder who you might have been thinking of when you wrote that???

    As for the sentiment, I agree.

    Unfortunately, I think we're being forced into this by the number of posers who pretend to be those people who actually post useful stuff. This is happening more and more.

    And, we are starting to see more posts for porn or cheap pharmaceuticals.

    Registration is one way to eliminate or reduce these problems.

    We have been rather liberal in our policies regarding posting and have avoided censorship in regards to the content of messages as long as they don't violate the policies we have listed. We will continue down that path even with the registration process in place.

    With registration we are simply trying to protect legitimate posters from impostors and from junk threads.

    If it really is becoming a problem I guess it has to happen.

    I still think that a rating system would be a mistake if your overall objective is to reduce wasted bandwidth.
