ULINK2 required error?

When I try to run the debugger I get a ULINK - arm error:

"This product requires ULINK2"

I have v3.53 and ULINK V2.10...

This is my first time around the block. Is the message saying that my USB debugger/programmer is not a ULINK2 device? Help!

  • What debugger did you connect? What does it say on the box?

  • My guess is that you have the older original ULINK. In the mean time there's a new version: ULINK2 (wich is in big letters on the box itself).

Also in uVision you should see ULINK2 if you click "settings" in the "debug" tab of "options for target". Firmware version I have is 1.20, I think this is one of the most recent for ULINK2.

So probably you need to buy the ULINK2, or change to older uVision software.

  • My debugger is not a ULINK2 but a ULINK, which I would like to use, so my assumption is that uVision3 v3.53 is not backward compatible with ULINK and only supports ULINK2.

I checked for earlier versions of uVision3 but could not find any.

Looks like I have an incompatibility issue here, is this in fact true?

  • It depends where you have got the product from and what device you want to program actually.

I recommend that you contact your Keil distributor.

  • Hi Reinhard,

I might have purchased a debugger from your company but to tell you the truth, I didn't even know that your company had these or in fact that your company even existed, until I was interested in microcontrollers. And only by way of the vendor who sold me the board and the debugger (on eBay) was I pointed to Keil software. Now that your software can reject these 'incompatable' debuggers it looks like I need to buy one from you, but the initial experience I must report is poor, because I must first fill out a request form with nearly 100 item that I must scan over or fill in, just to get a price. At least my vendor who was MDFly offered me in comparison greater convenience. Please don't underestimate the value of convenience to your customers. Click and buy is also not supported by your company. Good luck.

  • Cluck and buy may be important if I buy films or music.

When I buy an expensive development tool, I normally don't take it on my credit card but want it invoiced.

But I have to admit that I think Keil has too many required info fields on their forms. I tend to give very stupid answers when I get annoyed by required fields that should have been optional. The advantage with that is that it destroys any statistics collection way more than if the fields had been optional and the user could have chosen to answer or not.
