Hello all! I posted a question about Keil for ARM vs IAR on http://www.sevensandnines.com: http://www.sevensandnines.com/p126198/p126198_eng.php?lastpage=126080&id=186&table=FORUM I was suggested to ask in this forum to. Could you please check that thread out if you would like help me with evaluation instead of answering here so we don't need to have the same conversation i booth places. Thanks! Alberto
It would be good to know for which ARM MCU your are searching tools.
Alberto, Sevens and Nines is an IAR site, this forum is from Keil. It shows that both companies are really professional if they do not comment on such a question. Imagine you visit a BMW dealer and ask him what is better BMW or Mercedes... ;-) Both have evaluation versions that you can download and use and come up with your own opinion. Robert
Imagine you visit a BMW dealer and ask him what is better BMW or Mercedes... ;-) Or closer still: BMW or Volvo, Audi vs. SAAB? Hint, hint.:-> Seriously, now: The tool selection matrix often includes the non-tangibles (beyond code-size or chain-tool co$t): what kind of support one can get when the technology gets bugged down? How long does it take for the vendor to reply, or even resolve the problem? Observe this forum for awhile, and the other as well, work-out some real example with either eval-tool. Then make your own decision, since no one else, but you, knows better what you need, right?
When evaluating tools from various manufacturers I always come up with a question I am fairly certain the "level 1" support person can not handle. I then ask that question to all vendors being evaluated and the responses have an enormous impact on my choice. I doubt anyone ever will find a perfect, bug free tool, and no vendor will have a perfect manual, and finally; you, yourself is not perfect. Thus what happens when you have a problem should be a major factor in your decision. Erik
