ARM Beetle board BT5 Support?

Will the current ARM Beetle board be upgradeable to BT5 via firmware update, or is a hardware revision required?

Hi, I suspect BT5 support requires new hardware IP[1]. If that's true there are no plans to make this available in an update to the existing Beetle platform.

[1] However there are lots of BT5 features and I'm not an expert. We'll check and get back to you.

Hi,

I can confirm that Bluetooth 5 support would require a different hardware than the one that has been implemented in Beetle. The ARM Cordio radio block within Beetle has been optimized for Bluetooth 4.2 to reduce the power consumption and increase the efficiency. This optimization is not possible with a software-defined, flexible radio, that would support new protocols by SW update.
