Cortex-A5 based processors

Hi all,

It is just out of curiosity that I wanted to see the chips based on Cortex-A5 core. I couldn't find much except some Atmel SAM5 or something.

For the Cortex-A8, there seem a number of processors available from Texas Instruments, Freescale, etc.

I understand that the A8 is better than A5 in terms of speed but is there any other particular reason why A5 is not present? I read in this thread that A5 is extremely power efficient and supports multi-core.

I don't have any specific project requirement or anything, so would just like to know if I am missing something... ?

Thanks,

Gopal

  • Here are a few examples of advertised chips featuring the ARM Cortex-A5 CPU:

    • Amlogic M805 and S805,
    • Atmel SAMA5D3 High-performance, Low-power eMPUs - Atmel
    • Freescale Vybrid (also includes an ARM Cortex-M4),
    • Qualcomm Snapdragon S1, Snapdragon S4, and Snapdragon 200 all include some references with that core.
    • Spreadtrum Communications also has a few smartphone platforms on the ARM Cortex-A5, like the SC6820
