Hello guys.
I have a project on handwritten character recognition using a landTiger NXP LPC1768 ARM Cortex M3 board using touchscreen and so on.
My experience in such kind of projects or programming is limited but I am willing to put the effort to do it (if doable) Can anyone please give me some basic ideas/paths about how to start and develop the required code? Actually any resource could be helpful as I don't know even where to start.
And a final question, is this kind of project feasible (in the context of the board being used, parameters, memory etc), can it run a neural network required for the character recognition?
What I have tried:
I noticed a similar question is asked here and this site is suggested: http://jocr.sourceforge.net.
Thank you.
Andy Neil said:This tends to be a job for Cortex-A - not little microcontrollers.
We had OCR on Atari ST, means 8MHz 68000, so a Cortex-M3 should be capable ;-)
But did that recognise handwritten characters - per the OP ... ?
Likely not. Too long ago and too rusty my memory.
But didn't Apple's Newton understand "handwritten" text? It was an ARM7TDMI IIRC,
Edit: Even less, only and ARM 610.
So an Cortex-M3 should be capable to do at least as good as the Newton.
