I tried this one first on the new IoT Group; lots of viewers, but no feedback so far. The topic is equally relevant to a number of other Groups, not least ARM Processors. It could well be of interest to Embedded, SOC Implementation, and others.
.The European Union is currently funding a very large R&D Programme, "Horizon 2020", which will run 2013-2020. The budget for this programme is approximately Euro 1 billion per year. The range of research is quite extensive, but one of their websites, ec.europa.eu gives a good intro. A key area of work is entitled "Industrial Leadership - Information and Communications Technologies". The website lists a number of Calls (for Proposals) which look as if they were written with ARM technologies in mind, e.g.:
Customized and Low-Power Computing;
Smart Networks and Novel Internet Architectures;
Internet of Things - Platforms for Connected Smart Objects;
And more..
Is anyone in IoT involved in, or planning involvement in H2020? Knowing the EU/EC, the funding mechonisms and rules will be labyrinthine, but, at the end of the day, this is an excellent way to get involved in high-quality research, and get paid for it, and at the same time promote ARM and all its works. The EU is keen to promote multi-national co-operation, including contributions from non-EU Member States.
Anyone got any thoughts/news/views?
It is a bit less secret if it is shown at techcon2014:
