Arm has released the latest update to Arm Development Studio, with the 2021.2 release of the Gold, Silver, and Bronze editions, with 2021.c Platinum Edition following soon after.
The main new features (see the Release Notes for full information) of this maintenance release are the following:
The latest iteration of Arm Compiler for Embedded supports the latest Arm architectures and processors alongside incremental performance improvements over previous releases. Thread Local Storage (TLS) support is formalized for all AArch64 architectures. Full details on this compiler release are available in the release notes here. This compiler toolchain is installed by default.
Note that to help distinguish from other commercially available compiler toolchains, from the 6.17 version, Arm Compiler has been rebranded as Arm Compiler for Embedded.
Arm Development Studio 2021.2 Gold Edition will enable the use of the recently launched Arm Compiler for Embedded FuSa 6.16LTS. This is a distinct toolchain from Arm Compiler for Embedded, qualified for use in safety-critical applications. Further details are provided in this article. This compiler toolchain is NOT installed by default, but can be downloaded separately, and added to your Arm Development Studio installation.
The DSTREAM dashboard functionality has been extended to show the status LEDs of the HSSTP probe of DSTREAM-HT. This is useful when working remotely from the debug target. The DSTREAM-HT dashboard also adds a Data Eye View. Use this view to analyze the Bit Error Rate (BER) of the incoming data stream, helping to solve any issues that could be impacting data capture between the target and the probe. An example is shown below.
The release provides a number of other minor fixes and enhancements across the suite of components. For example, there have been improvements to how the firmware is managed on the DSTREAM family of devices, to improve update time. The Streamline and Graphics Analyzer components have been updated to their latest versions to correlate with the latest Arm Mobile Studio release. Ubuntu Desktop Edition 20.04 LTS is now a supported host platform.
Arm Development Studio Platinum Edition provides leading support for new Arm architectural features and processors, in advance of mature support in the Gold/Silver/Bronze editions. The Armv9-A architecture adds many new features, and in parallel Arm Development Studio is enhanced to support these. For example, the 2021.c release will be the first to provide support for the Realm Management Extensions (RME) of the architecture. For more detail on features only available in Platinum Edition, please contact us.
Arm Development Studio 2021.2 is available to download now.
Note that the evaluation license does not include Arm Compiler for Embedded FuSa. If you would like to evaluate that toolchain and associated qualification kit, contact Arm.
