Welcome to GDC17!

2 minute read time.

Welcome one and all to my favourite time of year, GDC time! Once again we’re back in San Francisco amongst the best and brightest of the global game development industry to bring you all the very latest tech, tools, tips and tricks to help you build the standout games of 2017. Right from the flight over you can guarantee half your fellow passengers are heading to the same event and we even had an impromptu galley gathering with colleagues across the industry, so it’s great to be here together once again!

Unlike last year, when we braved the rain to check out Alcatraz and risked drowning just walking down the street, this year the Californian weather has come through for us. On a beautiful, if blustery, day we’ve walked all over town, starting at the home of GDC17, the Moscone Center. This massive venue is home to some serious events throughout the year and it really comes alive for GDC. From a massive expo hall with stands from all the major players showing their newest demos, games and heaps more, (see ARM at #1924!) to a whole host of talks and sessions, this giant of a venue has everything you need for a great GDC. From Moscone we made it along the awesome Fisherman’s Wharf (via a huge bread bowl of clam chowder) across the beautiful Golden Gate Bridge and right through Sausalito to Muir Beach where we were so lucky to experience such a beautiful secluded spot so close to the bustle of San Fran.

Today we turn in earnest to the real purpose of the week, game dev. As you may have already seen,  my colleagues and I have released some fantastic blogs to let you know exactly what’s happening and make sure you don’t miss out on what means the most to you. Here’s a selection, but if you can’t make it to GDC this time, do please stay tuned because, as every year, we’ll be hosting Graphics week in April to bring you every single presentation, blog, article and event.
