Getting started with AMBA and AMBA AXI

1 minute read time.

As you may be aware, far from being a misspelled fossilized tree resin, AMBA is a freely available open standard for the connection and management of functional blocks in a system-on-chip (SoC). Since the mid-90s, AMBA has been implemented by vendors around the world who rely on its flexibility and compatibility to get the job done. Its long heritage also means that it has widespread adoption and comprehensive support.

To further assist existing and start-up vendors, Arm is releasing the online versions of their long-standing face-to-face training sessions. This content has been converted into bite-sized, on-demand videos that distill the years of experience that Arm application engineers have gathered while supporting AMBA, to make SoC development easier. The videos condense tried and tested training into a format that can be accessed wherever you are, whenever you want.

The AMBA training videos provide an overview of AMBA and its different specifications. They are useful to any developers designing, verifying, or integrating AMBA into SoCs and IP. Starting with AMBA AXI, the videos present the key protocol concepts so partners can better navigate and understand the AMBA specifications.

So, if you are new to AMBA or need to refresh on some of the key concepts, we have released the following introductory videos for AMBA and AMBA AXI:

  • What is AMBA, and why use it?
  • Evolution of the AMBA Specifications
  • The AXI Protocol
  • AXI's Main Features
  • AXI Channels
  • The AXI Protocol in multi-master system design

All are now available on the AMBA tools page here on the developer site.
