Thoughts on Wandboard

Hi Experts,

Being an Linux and Android enthusiast I am always looking for the development boards to try something new in it.

I would like to hear upon Wandboard which uses iMX6 DL processor from freescale which seems to be at reasonable price.

Regards,

Lyf

  • Hi TechGuyz

The Wandboard with the NXP i.MX6 DualLite seems nice for Android.

Even if the board is on the market for quite a while it is still well supported and recently the guys pushed Android 6.0 a.k.a. Marshmallow out, see here:

    http://www.wandboard.org/

They also have the full source code available for download as well as a Demo images available.

That seems good for a) getting the full source code to compile your own image  or b) debug on a working image if you hit problems.

They also have a good Forum with a active community offering support for Android, but also other Linux based Operating systems like KODI, Ubuntu and so on. (http://forums.wandboard.org/)

Also the Wandboard has support for Android 5, Android 4.4 Android 4.2, so it seems like it is a well developed product.

I'm more from the Hardware point and I like it because it uses a Module approach. Means there is a SOM (System-on-Module) on a Carrier board, where you can later change the CPU board. OK, thats more a industry feature, but like I said, I'm more HW...

So from Software point of view (especially Android) it looks like a good product with a smooth start.

Note/Disclosure: I have working contact to the Wandboard Team from time to time, so my view might be not neutral and you might want get more than just my feedback!

  • Hi Flow,

    Thanks for the reply.

I had bought one and its great to hear from you.

    Hello chrisshore,

    Hope you are good.

Along with Raspberry Pi2, Wandboard also seems to be good to play around for Android based stuffs.
