The question is How can i find out the number bytes in my program before I can buy any microcontroller chip? Is it hex file? Why even worry, chips with 64k of flash (the most the '51 can address without kluges) are available for less than $10. I am an ultra newbie A lot of information from lazy authors that see no reason to update their archaic drivel will make you believe that you will need (to make) a "programmer". DO NOT believe them. Use ISP chips such as the Rx2 from Philips or Atmel or even better, spend $99-$149 for a SILabs development board, it come with everything you can imagine for debugging and more. Erik
