Generating a *.cod file

I often experience difficulty persuading the IDE to generate a COD file (should be generated by the linker).

What exactly is required for the COD file to be generated?

I think you have to use LX51, and you have to enable the higher optimisation levels that involve the Linker (Code Packing).
