What is the advange of FlexLM license compare to nodelocked license?
Err - that it isn't locked to a node?!
The floating license would not be locked to a single machine? The utility of that arrangement should be apparent if you have multiple developers in different offices/buildings and only sporadic usage of the tools.
Or even if you have just one developer who needs to work on a number of different machines...
It's a better solution for large developping groups or corporations. Floating license is not hardware-bundled. New machines/staffs can easily begin to use it. Someone who are using core functions occupies a license.
For an example, there're 50+ staffs needing compile/assemble/link functions in my company. If all single-user licensed, we need to buy 50+ licenses. And if the computer configuration changes ( harddisk? maybe... ), we had to re-register the license.
Floating license is much easier. We installed 15 licenses on one of the servers. Keil only get licensed when compiling/assembling/linking or else. Other time the license will be released for other to use.
In very rare situations would most staffs using the software, so 1/3 or 1/4 is a acceptable ratio for floating licenses, compared to single ones.
The disadvantage is that the users must be inside the LAN, or access via VPN.
Hi,
I'm very interested in this, for years I have not really understood these advantages. One question: is anybody using a Flexlicense without a real Server Setup, in other words can I install it on my main workstation which always is running and then using it in the lab with my Laptop Computer?
Regards
