What is the advange of FlexLM license compare to nodelocked license?

  • Err - that it isn't locked to a node?!

  • The floating license would not be locked to a single machine? The utility of that arrangement should be apparent if you have multiple developers in different offices/buildings and only sporadic usage of the tools.

  • Or even if you have just one developer who needs to work on a number of different machines...

  • It's a better solution for large developping groups or corporations. Floating license is not hardware-bundled. New machines/staffs can easily begin to use it. Someone who are using core functions occupies a license.

For an example, there're 50+ staffs needing compile/assemble/link functions in my company. If all single-user licensed, we need to buy 50+ licenses. And if the computer configuration changes ( harddisk? maybe... ), we had to re-register the license.

Floating license is much easier. We installed 15 licenses on one of the servers. Keil only get licensed when compiling/assembling/linking or else. Other time the license will be released for other to use.

In very rare situations would most staffs using the software, so 1/3 or 1/4 is a acceptable ratio for floating licenses, compared to single ones.

The disadvantage is that the users must be inside the LAN, or access via VPN.

  • Hi,

I'm very interested in this, for years I have not really understood these advantages. One question: is anybody using a Flexlicense without a real Server Setup, in other words can I install it on my main workstation which always is running and then using it in the lab with my Laptop Computer?

    Regards
