I have a few PHILIPS 8031 chips in 40 pin package. They cannot be programmed with Flashmagic most probably because the bootloader is corrupted. I looked at a few Universal Programmers on ebay etc. but most of them are beyond my budget and some do not support the PHILIPS chip.
If anyone knows of a parallel programmer circuit which can be fabricated at home on a protoboard, please post the link.
In case there is no solution, I am planning to go for the one at ebay
This one has a demo mode to get a feel of the software without the hardware being in place. Also the firmware can be upgraded as new chips are added.
Cheers.
find a datasheet and see that the 8031 has no program memory.
You need to connect a external EEPROM and consider !EA pin connections, if in case you decide to use the same chip. External eeprom can be 27C512 (64KB) or 27Cxx (xx = memory size in KBs * 8. eg: 64 * 8 = 512)
Though i will want the world to perform the last rites of this controller IC and let it R.I.P. :P
Note that EEPROM means Electrically Erasable PROM. So no need for any UV eraser.
Strip that first E and you have EPROM - sometimes today labeled UV-EPROM just to distinguish them from the newer EEPROM technology.
Sell your Philips 8031s for a wad of cash on ebay (remembering to highlight their antique status) and get something a bit more up to date.
