Hello, Recently i have purchased LPC2129 development board which has Parallel port for debugging. But my laptop dont have Parellel port. Suggest how i can do the debugging here? Can i use usb to Parellel port converter for this? Will it work?
Thanks in advance. Kiran
Ah, it has an integrated Wiggler.
So why did you buy a board with a printer port interface if you don't have a suitable computer? Woudlnt' it have been much, much, much easier to go for a board that supported debugging over an USB interface?
Yes, you are right. But its mistake. If i purchase USB to Parellel converter, whether it will satisfy my requirement to debug the board or not? Is it a good idea to Buy this or not? or Is there any other solution for me? Please feedback.
Is it a good idea to Buy this or not?
NO! 'standard' programming of ARM processors is done via a JTAG connection.
Wiggler is a low-end way to play with the JTAG interface of a processor.
Just that it isn't so smart to pay for a board with an integrated Wiggler JTAG adapter, when the computer doesn't have the required printer port. 10 years ago, Wiggler could have been a good choice for a hobbyist. But that was a long time ago.
No a USB-to-Parallel adapter is NOT going to help you here. The board doesn't even have a standard JTAG header, you'd have to removed the JTAG switch bank, and wire one up. And then get a USB JTAG pod like a U-LINK or J-LINK

Thank you so much for valuable feedback. I think you people are correct. Basically the USB and Parallel port speeds differ. So, i cannot do the debugging for my board by using converter. May be i can try out the possibility that to remove Parallel-port JTAG wiggler connection and Solder the USB wiggler. Hope there is a possibility to do this.
