I can visualize many beginners doing this as a first en.wikipedia.org/.../Hello_world_program the poor sods are not going to get an error message, the code will just hang.
I know why, but consider it bad that you get a hang, not an error message, especially when you feebly try do run Keil for the first time. Yes Please read the manual should cover it, but did you Please read the manual the first time you started C?

what is embarrassing about "not very nice to beginners"
when "I, of course, discovered this by 'forgetting', but, as opposed to a beginner it only took me a minute to go DOOH!"

If I were the only one that has 'forgotten' some requirement when adding something then I really should be 'embarrassed' but simce I'm sure I'm not, I do not feel the least embarrassed.

No Erik, it most certainly is not; and unreserved appologies to you for causing you to think it was. It is very doubtful that any embedded developer has never forgotten the point you raise; I know I have!
