Having given up on programming my microcontroller to be a usb device, I am resorting to communiation through UART. My question though is, for my specific board, does anyone know if it is possible to do UART to USB?...
A USB-to-serial adapter connected to your PC/Mac/... will let the computer use USB to access the UART of your embedded device. And that adapter can even be integrated directly on the embedded device, having the embedded processor use the serial port, while the device "exports" a USB connection to the rest of the world.
