5 uart interface with single 8051

im using 5 digital energy meters with rs485 ports... i need to take readings from them and make a data log for all 5 connections....
i need some kind of multiplexing technique... how can i do that... micrcontroller is 8051

If they have RS485 ports, then it's quite likely that they are designed for multidrop operation - have you checked the documentation for these meters?

ACTUALLY THEY ARE NOT AVAILBLE IN our local market.. we have talked to the supplier.. have to place an order yet... m working on the conceptual design ryt now.. :s
