Hello,
I have been searching for wheter it is OK or not to use the evaluation version of the KEIL IDE for commercial purposes. The project is small enough to cope with the code size limitation.
I found this: http://www.keil.com/forum/16013/ thread dealing (amongst other things) with the matter, where Mr. Andy Neil said:
You may not use the Evaluation Version of the uVision IDE/Debugger to create commercial products.
qouting this list: http://www.keil.com/demo/limits.asp
Since the item is no longer present in that list, is it OK to use the eval version for commercial purposes?
Thank you all,
David Gustafik
... you will, obviously, have to ask Keil directly!
When you install the Evaluation version (don't you think there's a clue in that name?), you will have to formally agree to the Evaluation terms & conditions - no doubt they will state explicitly about commercial use...
Thank you for your answer, I have already asked Keil, and I'm waiting for a reply.
I was hoping to avoid reading through tangled legalese gibberish, since English is not my native language, and legalese is a perverted version of it.
As for if it would be available, I thought that it might be a real possibility since ARM bought KEIL and might have realized that good free unlimited (or somewhat limited) tools are what makes small teams/poorer companies/students prefer the ARM core.
I did find this though in the terms: EVALUATION USE RESTRICTION: If your Licence Key is Evaluation Only, or the Software is identified as an evaluation version (collectively “Evaluation Software”), then notwithstanding anything else in this Licence, YOU AGREE TO USE THE SOFTWARE ONLY FOR EVALUATION PURPOSES, AND ARM DOES NOT GRANT YOU ANY RIGHTS TO DISTRIBUTE OR SUB-LICENCE SOFTWARE APPLICATIONS UNDER THIS LICENCE.
So I guess not, though the formulation is somewhat... bizzare?
Thanks again,
David
