The original thread with a request for forum improvements is dead because of a bug in the forum system, so I'll just have to start a new one.
Anyway, one feature that would be nice to have is to have every thread display a list of references to the thread.
So if I would post a link to another thread in this thread, then that other thread would show a reverse link to this thread.
Let's say someone is discussing an USB problem and someone gives an answer and adds a note: "See also xx's answer here: xxx". If googling and entering any of these two threads, it would be nice to be able to know about both of them.
It is also quite common that people manages to create multiple threads for the same problem. Sometimes, half the answers are given in one thread and half of the answers in the other thread. Right now, some forum user has to add a post linking A->B and another post linking B->A.
Another thing is that the Keil FAQ pages links to a number of articles. But for a specific issue - such as a linking problem - the FAQ page often links to multiple forum threads. It would be nice if someone who googled and reached one of the threads could see a link to the relevant FAQ page and hence be able to see the references to other forum threads covering the same issue.
If the forum code can scan through a post and locate html references, it should be possible to scan through all posts in the database and check which of these html references that leads to other Keil forum threads to set up the cross-index.
In the original code, this was handled by storing and checking the time that a visitor last visited the forum thread page. There's quite a bit of potential for sync issues with that approach.
Once we get logins implemented this will be very easy to address.

whatever you do, please do not make it mandatory to respond in a thread to make it 'disappear'

Yes, that would be bad.
Please also include a button to "Mark All As 'Read'"
Add facility to search by author (or, at least, for a user to search their own posts).
Andy; I have been able to search by author with the present search box. Bradford
You mean by just entering the author's name as part of the search string?
Yes, that's a start - but not foolproof; eg, there are several contributors called "Andy" and "Neil"...
I agree. I last used the search to see if Jack Sprat had ever added any information or answered any question of an original OP. Nope, he just critiqued other posts. Bradford

I just used the new and improved search to find the very thread where you posted your findings. This was my response:
There are plenty of people on the forum who seem to have sufficient time to answer lots of posts, I generally leave that to them. If notice a post from one of the 'experts', however, that contains incorrect information I will usually correct it as very few others will.
Imagine yourself sitting in class. The teacher gets something wrong - would you prefer to carry on believing that incorrect thing for months or years or would you prefer another student to offer the teacher a correction?
I don't know if it has been suggested yet (because I'm too lazy to read every suggestion), but it would be nice to upload/download files on this forum. This way people can upload their code, and we can then 'see' their problem(s). Of course there should be a size limit; a limit that should be able to hold an example file size .zip'd up.
I do realize this is fraught with abuse potential. But I do think it would help a lot in figuring out people's code problems. (Along with Keil's storage capacity).
We could then download their project and simulate their code: fix it, and send them the bill.
AND we could post other examples for people to use... free code (of dubious nature).
Thoughts?
