You are assuming that there is 1 single answer.
I'm sorry to disappoint you, but: there isn't!
All of those boards that you mentioned probably have several interfaces that could be used, and each of those interfaces could be used in a number of different ways.
It is up to you to think about what your requirements & constraints are, and which of those interfaces & approaches would best meet those requirements within those constraints.
