When embedding an .MP3 audio player within an application, do you have to license it?
If so, what are the 'unlicensed' but commonly used audio files? .WAV?
(It is possible to play sounds in my new design, and I thought it would be nice to have a standard format for user selection of signaling tones/tunes: down-loadable)

I guess it will be able to sing a requiem ;-)
I was thinking more along the lines where they screw up I could play:

Just to keep them from screwing up again.
The technology, or the content?
If I design in the ability to play .MP3s, will I need to get a license to be an authorized 'player'?

I what thinking of the technology. I don't want to product a commercial product that suddenly requires fees on my end.
As far as the 'content' I would imagine *that* would require licensing.
I'm pretty sure that if you want to sell an MP3 player, you have to pay the licensing.
ogg vorbis is an royalty free, open source alternative for compressing audio. see http://www.vorbis.com/
