Barcode

Hello,

I need to interface a barcode scanner that has a digital output to a UPSD3254.

The output is not RS232, when I scope it I see it change as I pass it over the barcode.

Anyone have any suggestions?

  • Get the interface specification for the scanner!

  • I now have the interface specification.

When it sees a reflective surface the output is 0V and when it sees a nonreflective surface the output is 5V.

Typically a reflective surface is white and a nonreflective surface is black.

  • So it is a raw data output from the bar code scanner.

Get a new scanner. Unless you are bar code producer, processing raw data from the sensor is not your core busines.

It takes quite a lot of time to process. And there are huge number of bar codes out there. If it is a pen, then the "baudrate" will greatly vary depending on who is drawing the pen. And with a rotating mirror scanner, the baudrate will depend on the distance between the reader and the barcode.

And you will have to support that the bar code was scanned upside down.
