LPC2366 RTC Battery drain

Hi...

I am using LPC2366 in my application, I have connected CR2032 3V Lithium
Battery to maintain the RTC.

The Problem with the System is I have to change the CR2032 3V Lithium Battery
After every two months...

I have reffered the errata sheet for LPC2366 RTC..

Another problem is when ever I change the RTC Battery ... Initially It
Takes current to 22mA... With system in OFF State, unless I power ON the
System....

Can any one tell me the cause for this ?

  • Thanks.. for reply

Its True that active mode battery current is nearly in between 18uAmp - 20uAmp. measured by current meter.
My Problem is when ever we disconnect the battery / replace it with out switching ON the system it takes the current of approximately 22mAmp current, however If we Power ON the System then the current consumption comes to be 4uAmp.

Is it compulsory that after every time we replace the battery, we have to power ON / OFF the system. ?

Another question is my system is contineously ON hence the current requirement will me in uAmp, but approximately after every 2 or 3 month the battery gets DRAIN ?

What might me the possible cause for my systems battery gettting drain very frequently ?

  • Alas, the LPC23xx series are seriously broken when it comes to running the RTC from a battery or SuperCap. They will drain a button cell too fast, and you can't find large enough SuperCaps.

Have you looked at the availability of the pin-compatible LPC1766? Alas, the battery backed RAM has been removed - the 17xx series only has 64 bytes that are shared with the RTC.
