Changing value on local variables while debugging

Is it not possible to change the value on local variables while you are debugging? I have been able to change the value on static and global variables but not on local ones. I'm using the Ulink debugger (USB-JTAG) and Infineon XC161CJ as mcu.
If it is possible how do I do it?
