CAN communication with T89C51CC01

Does anybody have a description of Atmels "buffer mode" used for receiving CAN-Messages? The datasheet of the T89C51cc01 is not very detailed and Keils Appnote 165 uses this mode with two message objects for interrupt controlled CAN-communication. I wonder if some message objects configured in this buffer mode can be used as a receive fifo?
