No dongle regodnition

Hello,

I have the C51 version 5 compiler. However we upgraded our computers and tried to install the program on a new computer with XP professional operating system. During the fisrt step in the compilation there is the message "no dongle found:. The dongle medic regodnizes the dongle as being a pro dongle. I have also downloaded the a new driver from the rainbow site. The dongle is still not regodnized.
Please help me out.

Best regards Gottfried

    Is it actually fair to expect that such an old compiler should work with an OS that was not even a twinkle in Bill Gates' eye at the time it was created?!

    This same old chestnut keeps cropping up.
    You really have two choices:

    1. If you want to stick with your out-of-date tools (and you may have good reason to do so), then you are going to have to maintain obsolete systems to run them on;

    2. If you want to run the latest OS, then you need to update your tools to match.

    Of course, neither option is painless - but you can't have your cake and eat it!

    The v5 compiler must be well over 5 years old, so I think you must have had your money's worth by now...! ;-)

    Yes, I'd say so. Microsoft have tried very hard to retain backward compatibility - I regularly use a 17 year old 'C' compiler under XP with no problem.

    The main reason things like dongle drivers don't work when you upgrade is because they use all mannuer of tricks that were probably dubious at best on the OS version they were developed for.

  • Happily using Keil in a "dongle free country" I can not be specific. I recall clearly that there are posts in this forum about installing some kind of dongle recognition software when upgrading to some Windows versions. Find out what (search) and try that first.

  • Of course, you also need to be a little more specific with the type of machine you are trying to run the dongle on (as I fell foul of last year with my Toshiba laptop).

    (hint: Toshiba laptops require a special dongle driver to run)
