alternative of 8255 which can work at 3.3V

Hi All

Is there any alternative of PPI-8255 which can work at 3.3V and functionality similar to 8255 ?

Thanks & regards
Naresh

  • Highly unlikely.

The 8255 is an antique, designed to work with the x86 family.

If you are stuck with an existing design (ie, pinout, 5V, etc) your best bet is probably an FPGA on an adaptor board.
You can purchase 8255 HDL "IP" for implementation in FPGAs - try your favourite internet search engine.

If you are starting a new design, or even if you are re-working an existing design, but have the opportunity to re-lay the board, you should certainly not be even thinking about looking at the 8255!

You might look at the Triscend E5, which effectively has an on-board FPGA, or the PSD devices, or any other modern 8051 variant with sufficient IO for your requirements!

  • Hi Naresh,

I just wondering did you in fact find an alternative or even an 8255 that works off 3.3V, because I am looking for one at the moment!

    Thanks alot
