Dongles are a pain in the B...

I'm in the UK, using the Keil C51 toolset, and the Triscend E5.

Being in Europe (or, should I say, outside the USA?) I have to use a "dongle" (hardware key) with the Keil tools.

Far from being transparent, the Keil dongle seems to significantly mess-up the communication bewteen the parallel port and the Triscend JTAG.

Keil's knowledge base article
http://www.keil.com/support/docs/1788.htm
suggests that this may not be an uncommon experience.

Has anyone else experienced problems with the Keil dongle - particularly in connection with the Triscend E5?

Any tips?

  • Which goes to emphasise just what a pain the dongle is!

SO I have to reboot my computer & reconfigure the BIOS just to get this stupid dongle to work properly!
Surely, if Keil really must use this thing, they should come up with something which doesn't mess up the whole of the rest of the system!!?? :-0

Come on guys, we're in the 21st Century now - there must be a better way!!??
