Windows XP + Dongle

Hello,

I am using the Keil PK51 (Version 5.5) on a Windows XP computer now, unfortunately the european version of the Keil tools, which requires a dongle.
For this reason, there are Windows NT drivers that have to be used so that the system can "find" the dongle.
That works good, most of the times, but every 10th compiler run hangs up. The WinRun DOS window doesn't come to an end anymore, and that's it. Every attempt from that point on to compile anything results in the same behavior.
Windows has to be rebooted in order to make it work again.
Now, that gets a little bit annoying, since it seems to happen more often every day.

Is there a solution for this?

Thanks for any help!
Holger

    As I've said here before, v5.5 is very old - from long before XP was even a twinkle in Mr Gates' eyes. Therefore it's hardly surprising if they're not compatible!

    You need to decide:

    1. If you want to stick with out-of-date tools, you need to use a contemporary out-of-date operating system (currently v7.09);

    2. If you want to use up-to-the minute operating systems, update your tools to the latest version.

    Your call.

  • I'm sorry, I'll write that again:

    You need to decide:

    1. If you want to stick with out-of-date tools (eg, v5.5), you need to use a contemporary out-of-date operating system (MS-DOS 6.22? Win-3.1? Win-95?);

    2. If you want to use up-to-the minute operating systems (eg, Win-XP), update your tools to the latest version (currently v7.09).

    Hope that makes more sense this time...

  • The solution is pretty simple: we provide an patch for C51 Version 5 that allows you to run the software without problems on Windows NT/2000/XP. Just send an email that includes your serial number to:

    support.intl@keil.com

    This solution is only available for C51 Version 5.0 or higher.
