What ICE is good?

I am using a C167 in a project. I am tasked with choosing an ICE to use on the project. Does anyone have any recomendations $15K to spend. Thanks a lot, Vida

  • I've used Hitex at two different companies. They are good products. My biggest complaint is that they mount on the chip using flex cable and produce a bulky package. If you want to debug on your final product, you will have to leave space for the pod or develop a test fixture which is equivalent. They did have an emulator that plugged in to an inline connector instead of using the flex cables, but I don't know if the product is still available.

  • The iSystem POD is big too and it is connected with ribbon cable. I have been working with a Hitex ICE in anotehr company. I wouldn't compare the iSystem and the Hitex, because the Hitex is way older... it just wouldn't be fair. I don't know their newer products, but their stuff is high priced. the iSystem ICE is fair price, I think. I didn't pick any low price product, when I was trying to find the best ICE for our needs, because the software was not so great and the ICE was not very versatile. I think, if you want to test a product with an ICE, a low price ICE would eb good enough, since plugging it in and out a 1000 times will wear it out too.
