From answer to letter "C51 V6.11?" I understand that you know some secrets about new versions of Keil products :) What about C251 v3.xx ? Is the 251-core still interested for KEIL ?
What about C251 v3.xx ? Is the 251-core still interested for KEIL ? The Intel 251 was a revolutionary chip in that it added new instructions and additional memory space to the 8051. It also kicked up the clock speed by a factor of 6 and added 16-bit and 32-bit registers and instructions. About the same time, Philips introduced the 8051XA, which, while being source code compatible1, was not object code compatible with the 8051. Shortly after the 251 was released Intel started working on the 151 (which was a speed enhanced 8051 that ran at 6X the clock speed of a standard 8051). In late 1998 (if I correctly recall) Analog Devices introduced the ADuC812 which offered a 16MByte XDATA address space. In 2000, Dallas folowed suit with the DS8xC390 which supports 16MBytes of CODE and XDATA. The 390 also added a few instructions for accessing this extra memory as well as a MAC unit. Philips introduced the 8051MX which supports a linear 16MByte address space (8MB of code and 8MB of data). The MX also offers a few extra instructions that REALLY speed-up the performance of the 8051. So, as you can see, there is a clear migration of larger address space where the 8051 is concerned. Of course, the 251, as the predecessor to all of these new devices, is still interesting for Keil Software. In fact, we currently see strong 251 sales. With the sudden proliferation of high-performance, massive address-space 8051 devices, we will continue to support the 251's features as well as the features of new devices as they are introduced. Dear Jon, Do you know when KEIL will sell new version of C251 ?
It is currently shipping. Jon
