Hi,
I've got Juno Dev board in yesterday.
Unfortunately, I think it can't recognize any usb storage.
When I plugged this usb stick in my host PC, the host PC can mount the two parttiton(boot, rootfs) perfectly.
What't the problem of the usb storage?
Here it is my firmware version:
ARM V2M-Juno Boot loader v1.0.0HBI0262 build 596
ARM V2M_Juno Firmware v1.1.7Build Date: May 27 2014
This is my kernel log. It stuck because it cant't find /dev/sda2
cmdline: console=ttyAMA0,115200 root=/dev/sda2 rootwait loglevel=8

Can you confirm that the USB drive is inserted into the rear panel of the Juno Motherboard?
Yes. I tried to insert my stick all usb port.
I also tried to boot using another usb.
Unfortunately, the result was same
Can you confirm you followed the steps listed in the 'Deploying a root filesystem' section on the 'Juno Software Guide' page?
Could you see "USB hub found" message in your log?
When I tried with my juno board, I could see that USB hub is found in the logs. Please see below my logs.

Hi Luke,
Yes. I followed each steps of the guide page.
I also tried the booting using linaro's page.
http://releases.linaro.org/14.06/openembedded/juno-lsk/
It seems you are using a custom re-built kernel?
Can you confirm you are able to boot Linux using the Linux image supplied in the Juno Software Binary Images page?
Finally, I can boot using recovery image. I can also boot successful with my custom kernel after I flashed the image into NOR flash area.
However, please look the linaro's guide.
The guide says the board can boot using usb's boot partition.
Can you check the linaro's guide?
I'm glad you have it booting.
>However, please look the linaro's guide.

You can boot from USB with Linaro and I believe Linaro's guide is correct.
Note that the original Connected Community ARM deliverables and the released Linaro deliverables use different approaches.
The binaries for both are tested and should work as described in the instructions. However it is possible to cause problems if you (deliberately or accidentally) mix components/approaches from both sources.
With the ARM deliverables on Connected Community:
With the current (14.06) Linaro deliverables:
MarkN.
Sorry to post to an old thread but I am seeing the same behavior when trying to boot from a USB device.
Using the latest hwpack and lamp image found on the Juno-lsk page I am building a custom image using linaro-media-create:
$ sudo linaro-media-create --mmc /dev/sdb --dev juno --hwpack hwpack_linaro-lt-vexpress64-rtsm_20150620-722_arm64_supported.tar.gz --binary linaro-image-lamp-genericarmv8-20150618-754.rootfs.tar.gz
I am then following the instructions to configure UEFI to boot OpenEmbedded on Juno:
ARM/UEFI - Linaro Wiki
I successfully create a new boot entry pointing at the USB boot partition. When launching the new entry I boot until looking for a kernel:
Waiting for root device /dev/sda2...
And then I hang. I have tried booting from both USB partitions (sda1/sda2) using all four USB ports on the back panel. Any thoughts on why the kernel cannot be found of the root device would be much appreciated!
Steve
Hi Steve,
Linaro are constantly updating the deliverables (monthly). The processes that you are referencing in your comments are now very old, and much superseded.
We highly recommend using the latest deliverables and instructions. As I mentioned in a separate post, the latest Juno Getting Started Guide and our Juno Software Guide recommend that you get the latest Linaro Platforms images from Linaro Releases. Here you will find a link to the latest firmware and filesystem binaries developed for Juno. If you follow the instructions these deliverables should "just work". If not, then it may be advisable to re-format the flash as described in the software guide.
With the new deliverables, it is no longer necessary to configure the UEFI boot as described on the Linaro wiki. The Linaro Image is loaded from Nor flash, and the required boot sequence is already set up in the deliverables. You will need to install the latest file system on a USB stick, as described on the Linaro deliverables page at the link above. Once the firmware has been copied to the SD card, and the filesystem USB inserted, then on reboot the system should automatically flash the new firmware, then boot straight to the OS.
Please try the latest instructions and deliverables and see how you get on. If there are any problems then let us know and we will see if we can help.
