Arm compiler:need help.. Question regrading recompilation of source file

Note: This was originally posted on 20th April 2011 at http://forums.arm.com

Hi Guys,

In Our  Build system,  a source file is recompiled irrespective of there file contents changed or not  . So In such case can we know from objects/Libraries   header's  that its source contents has been changed or not.( i need this info to know the object's/Libs that really changed(source change) comparing  to  Base build. )

I feel Time stamp doesn't help as the objects are regenerated with out any changes in source file contents .

Thanks for reading my Post.

Presumably, you can't fix your build system. Well, I don't think that sufficient information for what you were asking for is stored in the ELF header of the image. How about creating another target besides the image, which is a text file listing all source file names that were used to link the program, plus their respective MD5 or CRC32. That way you can compare whether sources have changed.

    Best regards

Thanks a lot Marcus.. i will try ur solution :)
